The Taurus was the top RC model of 1962 and features 24019 (19%) wing section and slow speed characteristics sufficient to make most modelers a winner ..." About the Model To win a contest or master radio control flying is a combination of about 65% pilot and 35% plane. A good pilot can take just about any design and win a contest. The average guy needs a ship with built-in advantages. The major feature of Taurus is the thick wing section, using a modified NACA 2419 or: The maximum camber is 2% of the chord The maximum camber is located at apoint that is 4% of the Chord The maximum thickness is 19% of the chord This is a thick wing that has lots of lift and lots of drag. This enables the plane to fly at slow speeds and gives the remote pilot plenty of time (and slack) to judge the amount of control to apply. In 1963, there was no such thing as an integrated RC unit that gave the pilot a "stick" -- rather, the flyer was limited to "beeping" or pressing a button (either "up" or "down") that moved the elevator in small step increments. If the plane flew fast, one had to "beep" very fast to control it. Taurus was intended to slow the process down so that the neophyte could gain the necessary skills.
