Model Airplane News February, 1949 Model Airplane News Cover for February, 1949 Girls and Model Airplanes Click to Enlarge The February, 1949 issue featured a photo of Sandy Hill of Santa Barbara California and her prize-winning Wakefield model. This is a Jasco Special. Sandy was the wife of Stan Hill, a long time modeler, free flight designer and Wakefield contestant; in 1949, they were both members of the Falcon Model Airplane Club and Stan was president. . The "Jasco Special" was sold by the Junior Aero Supply COmpany in 1947 JASCO and the Hills Click to Enlarge Beginning in 1942, Stan Hill developed a series of high thrust line models under the theory that with the center of thrust, CG and center of drag nearly on the same line, the tight and, therefore, power wasting spiral climb of pylon ships would open up to a loose one-turn in five seconds and rate of climb would double. The original model was designed for FAI Competition in the 1950’s. Stan also constructed 1:1 homebuilts which he flew - all activity at his mountainside "factory" overlooking Santa Barbara.
