As soon as the Army's requirements were met Curtiss desined an export version. In those days, export airplanes could not be superior to Army planes. Thus, the engineers at Curtiss devised a simplified version of the P-36 with fixed undercarriage. This was given the name "Hawk 75". Curtiss Model 75 "Export Hawk" Click to Enlarge Two demonstration examples of the Hawk 75 were built in parallel with the P-36s ordered by the USAAC. Both were powered by a 875hp radial engine. One mounted an armament of one 12.7mm and one 7.62mm gun in the nose, and the other having the nose gunswith a pair of wing-mounted 7.62mm weapons. The two-gun example crashed and the four-gun aircraft was sold to China, who eventually bought 30 of them. later, 29 aircraft were sold to Argentina and 12 to Thailand.
